Professional Experience
A member of the Florida Bar since 1973,
Mr. Garvin has devoted the primary emphasis of his practice to
the trial of complex civil lawsuits in both State and Federal
Courts. This trial experience includes acting as lead jury trial
counsel in cases involving automobile negligence, wrongful death,
medical and legal malpractice as well as product liability and
claims for compensation arising from governmental regulation.
Board
Certification
The Florida Bar provides Board Certification
to attorneys who possess specialized ability in a particular field
of the law. In order to
become Board Certified, attorneys must demonstrate substantial
experience in the area, successfully complete a written examination,
meet expanded continuing education requirements, and receive a
favorable peer review from both attorneys and judges.
Mr. Garvin has been Board Certified
as a Civil Trial Lawyer since 1989.
Additionally, he has also earned Certification by the National
Board of Trial Advocacy as a Civil Trial Advocate. Mr. Garvin has been listed by his peers in
“Leading Florida Attorneys” and
has been admitted to the Million Dollar Advocates Forum,
whose membership is limited to trial attorneys who have recovered
over $1,000,000.00 for a client in a litigation matter.

Mr.
Garvin has achieved an “AV”® rating from attorneys and judges
in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. The “A” (very high) rating in Legal Ability
and “V” (very high) rating in General Recommendations are the
highest professional ratings available.

Community
Involvement
Mr. Garvin has been actively involved
in community service including past service as a Board Member,
and President of the Edison Community College Endowment Corporation
and as a Board Member of the Lee County Alzheimer’s Group. He
is an active Rotarian and currently serves as a Trustee of the
Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Trust Fund having previously served as
its President.
Education
Mr. Garvin received a Juris Doctorate
degree, from the University of Florida in 1973.
Since that time, he has completed numerous continuing education
courses related to advocacy in litigation, dispute resolution,
and appellate advocacy.

Mr. Garvin has authored numerous articles
involving the handling of negligence matters and was a co-author
Trial Advocacy: The Official Handbook of the Academy of Florida
Trial Lawyers. He is a past lecturer to The Florida Bar, the
Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, the Georgia and South Carolina
Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers
of America.

Mr. Garvin has been an active member
of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers having been elected to
serve on their Board Of Directors from 1976-1990. He chaired the
Constitution and By-Laws; Continuing Legal Education; and Ethics
committees. He served on the Nominating; Speaker’s Bureau; Building;
and Publications committees.

Mr. Garvin has been an active member
of the Florida Bar and is a member of their Trial Lawyers Section.
He has served on their Civil Procedure Rules; Aviation and Space
Law; and co-chaired their Committee on Advertising and Solicitation.
He has served on and chaired the Twentieth Judicial Circuit Judicial
Nominating Commission.

Mr. Garvin is a Sustaining Member of
the Academy of Trial Lawyers of America. He is a founding Master,
and current officer of the Calusa Inn of Court, an organization
devoted to improving civility and professionalism in young lawyers
through a structured mentor program.
Personal
Mr. Garvin grew up on Longboat Key Florida
and is married and has two children.
